You think California politics are screwy?
Aug. 21st, 2003 10:03 amCome to Texas! Where the Republicans are in such complete control that the Democrats have had to flee to prevent an unconstitutional redistricting session that would screw over poorer and Democratic districts. The redistricting's real motive (there was a redistricting two years ago, and it's supposed to be done right after the Census every ten years) is so the Reps will have enough votes to overturn a recent ruling that said that the time-honored Texas institution of funding education through local property taxes didn't result in "equal education for all" as guaranteed by the Texas Constitution. Come to Texas! Where the Republicans are in such complete control that nobody really notices that the Democrats are holed up in New Mexico with arrest warrants out against them. Where the Republicans are in such complete control that the newspaper publishes editorials supporting the Republicans' side because nobody turns out for elections or bothers with the actual issues except the NRA and the occassional oh-my-god-they-want-to-raise-my-taxes?!-how-dare-they-want-money-for-schools-and-roads?
