Jul. 10th, 2003 08:23 pmThere are times I'm not sure why I bother petitioning my representative, but just maybe it will work. I signed the petition for an independent investigative commission to determine if Bush misled the public. If you'd like to sign it, it's here. My comment was:
If perjury about a president's private sex life is an impeachable offense, then misleading the citizens of our nation and the world, misleading our soldiers TO THEIR DEATHS, is beyond the pale. There is a possibility that this is what has happened, and that is serious enough that we should put aside the politics and look at the facts. No President may lie, especially when it comes to matters of war. If Bush wasn't lying, he has nothing to fear from an independent commission.

Date: 2003-07-10 01:28 pm (UTC)I was very pleased by your support for multilaterally in any action on Iraq and I want to thank you for your continued common sense. Now that it has emerged that the action this country took was based on information that may have been falsified or overblown, it is our responsibility to ask how much the administration knew. We have found no weapons of mass destruction, despite the fact that we have had months in there with no interference from the UN inspectors. It is only logical to assume that, despite what Bush said in the state of the union, they do not exist and Sadaam was not a threat to the United States. If Clinton may be impeached for not including third base in his definition of sexual relations, I think we must at least examine the possibility that Bush lied to the American people about something much more important. No one died because of whom Clinton slept with. I want to know just how far Bush stretched the truth, and the only way to find out is an independent investigation.
