Life according to Zana
Jun. 30th, 2003 09:51 amIn the news:
artisdead: "Strom Thurmond hears ass-sex is legal; keels over in shock."
Then there was the Senator who wanted to remotely destroy every computer that used copyrighted files without paying. It was subsequently discovered that his computer was using unlicensed software.
And this:"Michael Speck, a ginger-haired ex-cop who now works full-time for the music business, helping to fight music piracy. Speck is a stocky, balding, brisk sort of bloke who once worked with the Drug Enforcement Agency and still has a fondness for police operations-speak. Music piracy, he often reminds people, helps finance organised crime and international terrorism."
Ah, yes. Free P2P music downloading must generate lots to finance terrorism.
In Paris:
pashabird wrote about Chicago, "What crackpot decided to put a major city here, anyways?" I could say the same about Paris right now. It rains all winter and now this. I have lived in southern Texas, but never have I lived anyplace where the air was so thick I got nosebleeds just trying to breathe it.
The things I do for Harry Potter. Caroline has managed to lose the last remaining key to the mailbox. So getting the mail (I'm waiting for the postoffice to send me the "package notice") involves trying to shove my abnormally short fingers in through the tiny slit and scrabble for the mail. This has resulted only in large bruises and much pain. I am managing now by prying up part of the metal and levering the mail inside with a chopstick. I always knew those chopsticks I carry around in my backpack would come in useful someday! But anyways, due to the f*ing strikes, still no Harry Potter. Really, I just should have hopped the Channel up to London. Or reserved a horribly fucking expensive copy at the English-language bookstore on Rue de Rivoli across from Tuileries. Actually, on Saturday I gave up and actually went to the horribly fucking expensive English-language bookstore with a fifty euro bill, determined not to faint when I saw the price. They were sold out. I did manage, however, not to steal the Ravenclaw poster they had up. I don't think they would have appreciated that.
Am debating whether or not to register as a Democrat. I am horribly disappointed with the party, I think they are all wimps and need to take a stand for once, stop wibbling and actually have a party platform. On the other hand, the greens aren't going to win. And I'll be voting in Texas since I don't want to pay Massachusetts income tax, so it's not like the greens'll even be on the ballot. But I want to do everything possible to throw Bush out of office. I've almost stopped even looking for the humanity in the man. So, am conflicted.
Good news: my brother apparently is going to be allowed to graduate. Bad news: he is at a horribly expensive summer camp for ADD kids. At the same time, my grandparents' van went kaput. They bought another van and more or less got ripped off, it's in the shop right now. The RV is in the shop as well. The Camry decided that it didn't want to see its 15th birthday. Leaving us with only the one car for all of us. I forsee much driving grandparents to doctors' appointments, which scares the shit out of me. Cause usually I drive the Camry which is a clunker and no one would be too terribly angry if I smashed it up. And usually it's just me in the car, running errands and such. So it's only my life I'm risking when I drive in San Antonio. I hate driving in the city. But I am terrified of driving my grandparents in the city. It would be all my fault if they died in a car crash. So I have been known to drive 20 miles below the speed limit, which annoys me and all the other drivers but makes me feel safer while driving precious cargo. God knows what I'll do when I have kids. Add into the equation that my brother will be getting his license this summer and we're all screwed.
I called home yesterday and my dad was doing the budget. Again. He says it's a grownup thing. I told him I don't plan to be a grownup before the age of 84. He said, "Good luck with that."
In summary: no Harry Potter but I've read lots of fanfiction lately. The Supreme Court says gay sex is legal so the Senate has decided to outlaw gay marriage. Zana is conflicted over who to vote for and feels powerless anyways. The Revolution is coming no time soon, and she probably wouldn't participate anyways since she is a pacifist. She had nightmares last night about going back to Smith and having an Ada as a roomie and the roof leaking and the Ada taking up all the bookshelf space. Zana is sick. Zana wants Harry Potter. Zana wants to be a kid forever. That's about all.
