Lucy, forgive me. I'm writing a fic that involves Ginny as a love interest. I didn't mean to, it just happened! I think I'm unconsciously trying to redeem her. I want an interesting Ginny!
On the bright side, I probably will never finish it so I'll never make you read it.
On the negative side, I was just starting to get dressed this morning when the plot bunny bit, so I was wearing a bra and socks when Clement's little friends burst into the room. I tried to cover myself with my notebook but then I realized I was using HP slash (cause yes, it turns out it's slashy as well as Ginny-ish) to protect my body from adolescents, and that idea just cracked me up. Serves them right for trying to use my room for sex, the little buggers.

Sigh. As long as you don't ostensibly use her as a replacement for Ron, thereby implying that he is somehow not interesting in every way, which we all know is ridiculous.

Ginny will never be a replacement for Ron. That's just wrong.
So, I promised myself, there can be sex but not just smut, right? Cause I don't want to just be producing porn cause really other people can do it and probably do it better. So the plot I have is supposed to have a point. And twenty-four hours into it, I've already gotten lost on the way to getting to the point.
Sigh.
But Ron's all cute and conflicted that his sister is with his best friend! That much makes me happy.

LOL. Het smut never does anything for me. Which is probably bad. The first time I see the words 'love nub' or 'hot box' or something like that, it loses me, you know?

As long as Ron is happy in the story. Or getting tortured. Either way. And as l;ong as he's not with Hermione, because. Yick. Dunno what JKR's thinking.

Het doesn't do much for me, either. And anybody using the words "love nub" should be shot.

However, I can't put myself in Harry's skin. And at least with Ginny, I can get across to her on the "at some point in time someone I implicitly trusted turned out to be not only a monster but the lord of evil at that" angle.

I'm guessing you're not a fan of Gryffindor Tower. I still haven't been able to figure them out. I wish they didn't exist. They bring shame to all the fandom.

Hermione.... Okay, so the people who ship her with Harry? They're just as nuts as the GT people. Cause H/Hr: where's the chemistry? They're like brother and sister. Ewww. So completely wrong.
I can kinda see her with Ron, if there's a reeeeally slow evolution. But it'd take a long time and a bunch of immaturity on both their parts.

My favorite characters are Snape and the twins. Not mixed, though. That's scary.

So, um, Whoa. I take it from that 'lord of evil' thing that you had a sort of dark plot in mind for this story? As to Gryffindor Tower, I've never been. If it's some sort of het thing, I wouldn't have bothered with it. Het's just uninteresting to me after so many years working with the slash angle.

As to Hermione pairings...I don't know. I think JKR's done too good a job establishing them as friends. She's pretty much one of the guys. I can't see her with anyone. Percy, maybe, or someone else she can be all intellectual with.

I don't like her with Harry because it leaves Ron out. I mean, almost to a damaging extent, if you consider the issues Ron's already working with feeling second-best. And because it's het.

I don't like Hermione with Ron because she makes him feel stupid. Ever since their first meeting in book one she's been more than a little condescending towards him. I don't know if that's a healthy start to a relationship.

Snape...eh. I think fandom's ruined Snape for me. Like Legolas, you know? He's very very overblown by fans, so I'm leery. I don't dislike him, but he doesn't do much for me.

The twins, though. Gotta love the twins. I've had a little Twins/Ron incest bunny sort of blooming lately. Love them. A lot.

Oh, yeah. I only write dark stuff. The fluffy stuff stays in my mind; the dark stuff goes on paper.

Not too dark, tho, or I start to depress myself. And no fire-and-brimstone-everyone-dies-in-a-bloody-mess, either.

I agree that so much more gets explored in slash as opposed to het. I realised this cause I read both but end up only rec'ing slash stories to my straight friends (who I think at this point have gotten over it) cause there are a grand total of two het stories that I find worthwhile enough to recommend to people outside the fandom. They're both by epicyclical and she gets enough recs anyway.

Hermione and Percy? Can't see it. Perhaps before the house elf incident, but not now. She strikes me as someone who will hold that prejudice against him forever.

If she had a mean streak, I could see her with Draco. That would be a fun one to write.

I kinda liked the Hermione-Ron thing just cause for once it wasn't Ron being second-best. And I think Ron would be good for her. Whether or not she'd be good for Ron, however, is debatable.

I know what you mean about Legolas. I actually got into LotR just before the first explosion of Orlando-Bloom-is-so-hot-let's-pair-him-up-with-everyone fics. So there were some good fics out there before the movie. But every time I read a Legolas fic I want to send the author a Howler screaming "For the Gods' sakes, his hair is black. Black, you illiterate snob!" But then, I happen to be a big fan of canon in the case of LotR. Cause it's all developped. Complete mythology, culture, language, etc. Anyways. I'm also a bit of a fan of Legolas/Gimli cause it's the only one I can really see in the books. Beth and I one day:

And from then on I was willing to read it.

But I digress. Snape. For me it was a bit of the opposite; I fell in love with fandom Snape after the movie came out (the man is gorgeous in the tall gloomy and handsome way) and read a really good fic whose name I can't remember. But yes, fandom Snape can be very.... iffy.

Twins! I got this icon because it reminded me of the twins. In a weird, roundabout way. In that "They make me feel smiley and sunny inside".

Dude. I totally had this huge long response typed out, and then I got that damned 'webpage has expired' thing, and it's all gone.

Sometime we should discuss these things live and in person. Dig? Or, you know. Over the phone, since that's an option that's actually possible.

Argh. I know what that's like. I've taken to copying everything before I click post because I lost so much stuff that way.

I'll be in Texas in August, in Massachusetts for the school year. I'm not sure where you are since the hike, but Smith offers free food to anyone under 30 who looks even vaguely like a girl. Well, they don't, but they also don't check IDs so we can sneak friends in anytime. Or, you know, phone is also good.
