Last year I planned to write a nonfiction book about the systematic gutting of employment law enforcement in the US. When I looked up months later, I realized I'd written a fantasy novel about labor rights instead. And gender, and politics, and even love.
Eighteen months of my life writing this, and I've loved it so much that I wish it wasn't over.
