zana16The federal government sent people home at 3 yesterday cause of the snow, which meant I could have gone home too -- but I was on a roll on a project, and wanted to finish the first bit of it.
I got to Greenbelt approximately 30 seconds after my bus, so I had to wait half an hour for the next one. And then it did not come. And did not come, and did not come. Eventually after about an hour, we got a bus. Yay! The snow was coming down heavily. I had a work laptop in a rolling bag, since my laptop is at the Apple store, and I suspected I wouldn't make it in to work today. The bus driver drove veeeerrrry carefully and sloooooowly, and that was okay.
At the bottom of the Big Hill, the bus foundered in the snow. For about ten minutes, the bus driver tried to get traction to pull away from the bus stop and head up the unplowed road. I have to admit I was almost relieved when he gave up and called it in; there's a stop sign near the top of that hill, and there was no way in hell we would get up there. I told him that as I got off the bus and started up the hill in the snow, dragging the work laptop in its case because what with the law books, it was too heavy to carry.
Perhaps now is the time to mention that the flu laid me out for four-plus days last week? That I am still coughing up gunk, and my lung capacity is severely diminished? It was only three quarters of a mile, but I honestly thought at times that I wasn't going to make it. Thank God for wool socks, though. As it was, I immediately jumped in a hot bath.
At eight, the lights started going out every ten minutes or so. At nine, they went out for good. I went to bed and slept wonderfully until eight the next morning. The electricity was still out. It finally came back on around noon today.
One of these days, I am damn well going to make Sir Now Appearing buy a fucking snow shovel. It shall happen.
