My mother's half-brother's second wife's sister's daughter just had a son. I was at the commitment ceremony a few years ago as part of the "family"--my mother'shalf-brother'ssecondwife'ssister is my godmother, and Chris and Miesje are the most beautiful lesbian couple I know. It feels like maybe something's going right for the world, at last. A beautiful little boy born into a family that is hardly nuclear or traditional: even the extended family has so many twists and turns that it's almost impossible to sort out--and it's the best example of family I've ever seen.
