Bliss is...

...biting into a Gold Rush apple from the Farmers' Market after not being able to eat any for 3 months.

If I ever have an orchard, man. One third Pink Lady and two thirds Gold Rush -- and the Pink Ladies, though good, will mostly be there to remind me just how completely awesome Gold Rush apples are. Kind of like how I don't actually like walnuts in brownies, but the best brownies are the ones with walnuts because it sets off the delicious chocolatyness by contrast.

Life in DC

In our weekly staff meeting today, Katherine brought up disaster preparedness. Her suggestion was to stockpile water, granola bars, and a battery-powered radio in case we couldn't leave the building.

I'm not saying that these are not good ideas. But we're a block from the White House. We can't get terrorism coverage through our insurance. And if a dirty bomb goes off, we're toast -- probably literally.
