GIP, the federal deficit, and Monster
Mar. 7th, 2004 09:50 pmSo, the GIP is one of several that the lovely
sylvanstargazer has made for me. Squeee!!! I will be working on another with the same message, when I no longer have a math exam and a paper to get through.
Dave Barry, as usual, has cut straight to the chase:
Q. What is the federal budget deficit?
A. It is a gigantic number of dollars -- like 300 jillion skillion drillion -- that the federal government is spending, despite not actually having it.
Q. Is that legal?
A. It is if you have nuclear weapons.
And.... Emily and I went to see Monster. Which was... wow. Really, really gritty, superb acting, and scary as all fuck. Fortunately Emily was there to squeeze my hand during the rape scene, so after one terrifying second of oh shit is this gonna trigger?? I was perfectly fine again.
I need to make Dacey grittier, I'm realizing. The violence within her I've been ignoring, and it's the reason she hates herself, so I can't ignore it. I have to put the ugly in there with the good. I have to face up to what she's done and stop romanticizing her. And I have to test her love for Elijah. I plotted out a whole new scene that's gonna be more or less the climax as soon as I get the backstory ready. The whole "the nature of evil" and stuff. Heh. I'm not sure I really want to go into the parts of my psyche I'll need to, to get Dacey out. Fortunately, I have time.
