Nov. 19th, 2003 10:34 pmAnd that's about how my day has been. Although there was laughter in the despair, going to the Yes Men lecture, watching all these corporate capitalists just not get it. "It" being a three-foot inflatable penis, at one point. It's not like you can ignore a three-foot penis, for God's sake!
Have finished The Midwife's Apprentice. Had dinner with Leslie, which was nice. Had lunch with Alice (this was before the dinner with Leslie, if you were wondering) and we talked in the uber-expensive campus center about whether humans are capable of excaping capitalist propaganda, and how liberal democracy is just an institution of capitalism, and how political justice doesn't mean a whole lot when there's no substantive justice. If I didn't have this Special Studies with her, I swear I would have dropped out by now, or sunk into a deep depression. It's the only place I'm actively learning this semester. That and social theory turns me on. Physically. Shut up.
Also, during lecture, Doug Patey put up an altar to Alexander Pope. With candles. This made my day.
So, overall, a pretty decent day. Must now go study for Astronomy exam tomorrow. Then wait for the barrage of "if you hate Smith, why are you here?" letters to decend when the Sophian comes out tomorrow. Really, people. If you love something, that doesn't mean you can't criticize it. That's what Bush is saying, so it obviously must be wrong. :)
