zana16I say to my father, "Daddy, your daughter has a broken heart. Send her a care package." Today I get a box from amazon.com, and within is a book titled Wealth and Democracy. Only my father would do something like that. And only I would appreciate it, and actually wish I had time to read the book.
I looked at sunspots through the big telescope today. My life is exciting, ne?
Also, got an email from the Smith webserver today. Apparently I have too much email stored in their databases. They are going to limit me to 1 gig by Monday Or Else. Then 100 megs limit will be imposed soon after.
I never thought they would be idiotic enough not to clear out the "sent mail" cache every so often. Four years of "sent mail". Also got rid of a bunch of music I downloaded in the math lab when I worked there and emailed to myself. They were storing that in "sent mail" as well. And huge video files I sent to myself back before they imposed the 25 MB per email limit.
Now that I've deleted most of my history, I want to know whether I'm under the limit. Can they tell me? No. Of course not. I'll only know if and when they start deleting stuff from my account come Monday. The call to ITS went like this:
Random ITS Guy: Open your GroupWise client.
Me: I don't use the GroupWise client.
Guy: You should.
Me: I've been using the webserver for three years quite happily, thank you.
Guy: Just install the GroupWise client and it will tell you how much you have stored.
Me: Can I just do this at a lab and not bother installing useless and inept software?
Guy: Why don't you just install the damn client? Smith prefers that you use the desktop client. It's on the CD that you got at registration.
Me: Because I couldn't care less what Smith prefers? And because I'm calling from a lab anyways, and I've brought up the client and wow, look at that, it still doesn't tell me how much space I'm using.
Guy: Look, did you check out the FAQ page?
Me: Yes. And I'm looking at the spot where they say the little number will be. Not there.
Guy: Um.
