zana16Today is National Bologna Day. Rejoice.
My Bologna Story: I was on my way to Italy to visit Sally for Christmas. They were sold out of 2nd-class tickets so I charged 1st-class tickets to my dad's credit card and told him not to bother sending the floss I'd asked him for for Christmas--the tickets would do nicely as a present, thank you. It was a night train and I was trying hard to sleep even though the other passenger in my compartment was a man--I need to get over this irrational fear of all men, but I'd just been having the rape dreams again so I wasn't too happy being stuck all alone with a guy who seemed nice enough except he only spoke Italian. I finally got to sleep after we passed through about ten whole meters of Switzerland and so had to show our passports at 1 in the morning. Around 3am, the door to our compartment bursts open. There are loud voices and the light comes on. I groan and put my head under the blankets, at that stage of sleepiness where I didn't much care if they stole all my possessions or even if they murdered the man in the other cot, just as long as I got back to sleep. But the loud voices continue, there is shouting, and I gradually come awake enough to notice that they are going through the man's suitcases. More shouting. Eventually they haul him off for a few hours. I peak out the window, wondering where we are. The sign says Bologna.
Oh. You mean the lunchmeat? Ick. I don't go near the stuff, personally. Can't imagine why they'd name a holiday after such a disgusting foodstuff.
