zana16Please disregard this post. I am spewing vitriol at all the Harry Potter fandom's stupidity and politics. None of the people I'm fed up with actually read this journal, so I am not attacking you.
Dear HP politickers,
Dude, it's not even funny anymore. I'm just going to have to provoke Snacky's Law and say it: the BNFs in the HP Fandom ALL act like those bitchy popular girls in highschool. The amount of politics in this fandom is disgusting. Really, people, humanity has moved beyond the intrigues of Elizabethan England and Louis XIV's Versailles. It's an f*ing book. It's great to squee over it, some of the fanfic is good, but it is not something anybody's life should revolve around except the writer's. I don't care who said what when about whom to whom and how true any of it was. This is the kind of grudge that eventually leads to wars in real life. Thank Gods y'all aren't fighting over something that matters, like land or human rights. Most of you people are grown women, who should know better than to behave like immature brats. And it honestly makes me ashamed to be a woman. Can you see men doing anything remotely like this? All the infighting, jockying for position, sucking-up-while-saying-nasty-things-about-the-same-person-elsewhere: it's all a load of crap. And frankly I don't even want to know most of you. Other fandoms have been fun. HP fandom needs to be institutionalized. I would actually not be that upset if JKR came down on fanfic if it meant all this b.s. would go away. This is coming from a staunch libertarian who has issues with authority of all sorts, and supports the right to write fanfic no matter what the author thinks of the results (or what I think of the results, either). So, to all those BNFs who feel betrayed or martyred or anything else: I don't give a flying fuck, thank you very much. I have better things to do with my time. I put one toe into this fandom and I was enchanted enough with the really good fanfic to keep that toe in for no less than 14 months. During that time, I started writing several HP fics. But I'm not willing to put up with the politics. If me writing a fic in this fandom automatically puts me on some "side" of an issue that I consider ridiculous, I'm not going to do it. Fuck being Switzerland. I'll be Neptune. Even that isn't far enough away some days. So, I'll be missing out on some good fics, because this fandom really does produce some good authors. My loss. Your loss that you won't get any of my fics, but you don't really care. I'll stick my head back in every once in awhile and see if I can find more good fic without running into the politics again. Gods keep you all. You guys are so incredibly fucked up I'm on the verge of losing faith in humanity.

But it is an illustration of what capitalism would be like if there were no system of laws to contain it. Everything is for sale: safety, spy intelligence, allegiance, etc. You can be safe if you can afford the neighborhoods that have their own private armies. The Mafia is the most coherent social structure around, and the rest of society is still based on self-interest (to the extremes of theft and violation of human rights and human dignity) that isn't as well-structured and well-policed as the Mafia. The police state and the welfare state are no longer political entities, since the political nation-state no longer exists, so you have to buy these services.... Nmm, this is all mixed up in my brain and isn't coming out in any kind of order. Hope you can see through the haze.
