Jun. 9th, 2003 05:15 pmWooHOO. Just a thrity-page thesis stands between me and seniordom. The Final Exam from Hell didn't turn out as bad as expected--except that Fontainbleu was one of the things I didn't study, figuring as we'd only seen slides that she wouldn't include it. There was a moment of panic there as tried to think which king the gallery was built under. Then I remembered that it was built to impress Charles V, who I know sacked Rome in 1527, and it was after that, so I put down the 1530s. I think that's right.
Exam this morning wasn't bad either. I managed to write a rather stylized essay in French, which was what he wanted, and then a long essay on a book we read which I'm sure he'll like because come on, I managed to include references to Plato and Marx and the whole damn thing was about humanism. Never failed yet.
Then I went to get lunch, and since it's a holiday here all of the bakeries were closed and I couldn't face felafel again so I went up into the Latin Quarter and went to Pizza Hut, because as always I have been craving veggie pizza. This is because I have it maybe once or twice a year. While waiting for them to make it, I wandered half a mile up the street looking for a newstand. I finally found one open that had "Newsweek" written in large friendly letters on the awning, so I figured they'd have Newsweek, right?
Wrong. They didn't even have Time, which is my backup. I'm sure it is better than Newsweek (this is not hard) but since I don't read it every week I don't know which journalists are brown-nosing propagandists and which ones to actually read, and which ones to laugh at. Yes, I realize that I shouldn't be criticizing brown-nosing having just written the essay that I did, but accept my double standard. I don't do it for a living, just for grades.
