Last time I moved, I hauled 20 boxes of books with me. You think this is an exaggeration, but it is not. Twenty. My back did not forgive me for a long, long time.
Not long after that, I ran out of room in the four huge bookcases crammed into my tiny room. So I only bought/begged/borrowed/
stole a couple dozen more books, instead of the couple hundred I would have acquired otherwise.
I decided that it was time to pare down my collection. Now really, this is just a way of procrastinating from the "hard" part of actually cleaning my room. I can get the same sense of accomplishment without all the hard work of going through the boxes of crap I picked up off my floor. (By the way, I can still see my floor! It is exciting! Except for the giant stain, which is not.)
I managed to get rid of... two boxes of books. Only two. And some of them were painful. Some of them I had to say to myself, it doesn't matter how beautiful/old/etc this book is; if I lived to be a hundred and twenty, it would still be gorgeous and old and on my shelf
not yet read. And some of them were great books that I read and will not reread, so they must go as well. And some didn't make it to the discard pile. Probably I will not read my lovely two-volume set of Proust's
Remembrance of Things Past before I am a hundred and twenty, but if I'm still around then, I'm pretty sure I'll get to it at a hundred and twenty-one. Also, I didn't even touch the thousands of health books I acquired while in the vitamin business.
So under the cut, you will find a few of the better titles. I will send these to you for the cost of shipping, because I can't bear not to give them to good homes. Comments are screened so you can give me your addresses. Yes, I am willing to ship to other countries if you are willing to pay the costs of shipping, which are unfortunately not cheap.
