Long day. Looked at a bunch of places, drove around without air conditioning, and dealt with unpleasant landlords while battling dehydration.

Did get to go to Borders, so it's not all bad.

There was one place we went to look at, in a pretty bad neighborhood. It was cheap, which is why we even considered it. The front steps were rusting out, and the door to the upstairs apartment looked as though it had been hit by a bullet or five. The work inside the place was shoddy and more for show than substance--the balcony had rotted wood and instead of fixing it the guy just put down tarpaper. Heather's dad is a maintenance man so he's taught her things to look for, but even I could tell this place was a disaster. We got out of there fast. Then a moment later the landlord calls Heather's cell to tell her he was offended! We both agreed that if he'd been upfront about things it wouldn't be so bad, but we have a low tolerance for bullshit.

Anyhow. I'm wondering if I could jury-rig a network connection to my laptop from the facilities here, so I could use my own computer for surfing and it'd be more private...
