May. 18th, 2012 12:09 pmVictory! The FDA has finally approved over-the-counter HIV test kits. Soon (knock on wood) you'll be able to order a kit over the internet, prick your finger, and know your status within 10 minutes.
I have to admit, I've watched Brad spearhead this campaign over the last few years -- I'm on the board of the William Penn House, which has more or less absorbed the Mosaic Initiative because of Brad -- and I never thought we would see this day in the next ten years. It's pretty incredible to see. Everyone opposed this, both the big AIDS orgs and the FDA. It threatened too much the way business was done; no one wanted to mess with the structure because that might affect funding.
Here's hoping that we can distribute these kits by the next World AIDS Day.
