Apr. 18th, 2010 08:09 pmYesterday was a social day; today was a domestic day. I did manage to make it to Quaker Meeting, but that was the most social thing that happened. I kept my mouth shut during a presentation by FCNL during second hour; it is true that they continue to do good work. Important work, even. Perhaps one day I will forgive them for so mismanaging their money that they had to lay off most of their staff, and for slashing the Native American program down to the entire program being run by a one-year intern who makes $15,000 per year. Honor the promises, my ass.
I bought a whole bunch of seedlings at the Farmer's Market, ran some errands, came home, and gardened for four hours. I am not a gardener, so I have to admit that I was making it up as I went along. All the gardening books at the library expect you to have some basic idea of what you're doing, and I do not, so I didn't find them very helpful. I'm still at the "What's the difference between annuals and perreniels?" stage of gardening. I freely admit to coming from a long line of failed farmers. Therefore, I will put things in the ground, and have no expectations. Anything that grows will be a bonus.
My plan had been to ask our neighbor next door, but I think perhaps she may not be speaking to me. Other neighbor next door (other side) is dead, we recently found out, so I'm trying to get the morning glories and sugar snap peas trained up the fence before somebody buys the house and can object.
It was a lot of fun, actually, to play in the dirt. :)
Last night,
cshuski went to see HMS Pinafore at Georgetown Law. It was definitely an amateur production, but very well-done nonetheless. I especially liked that because it was amateur, the cast was made up of real people, all sizes and colors. It did skew white (as the law school does), but it was still refreshing to see normal human beings instead of pale 100-pound waifs on stage. Also, I heart Gilbert & Sullivan.
