Awhile ago, S (not understanding the inherent irony) told me there was a rumor going around that Aaron and I were dating. I laughed and thought the rumor would die out. After all, all we have in common is that we're both quiet, we both teach math, and we were both volunteered to coach girls' basketball next quarter.

Then yesterday for Parents Weekend, both Aaron and I both, totally coincidentally, both wore cranberry-red shirts, jeans, and brown jackets. When "great minds think alike" didn't silence I.K. and I was asked for the 40 thousandth time if we'd planned it, I said, "Yes. See, staff isn't allowed to tell students if they're dating, so Aaron and I are wearing matching clothes to send out a message to our more perceptive students, like you, who we knew would support us!" Cause, really, it was too good a line to pass up, even if nobody was going to get it. [Incidentally, most of my flist won't get it either.] I.K. and T. knew I was kidding but decided to take me at my word, and made Aaron and I pose for a yearbook picture with them--a "family picture", they said. Then they started calling us "Daddy" and "Mommy", and things got so disturbing I had to leave.

I want to organize "shoutouts" to mess with my students' heads, but I don't think Aaron would appreciate it.
