You know you are in South Texas when your reaction to your doctor saying "May I say a prayer over you?" is Well, at least he asked first...

ETA: But the food, it is to die for. Why is there no decent Mexican food in the entire DC area?

Oh noooooooo. But it was fairly polite and self-aware of him to ask, I suppose.

There isn't a large Mexican population around DC, alas. There's a decent Mexican restaurant in Silver Spring, though - Mi Rancho.

Yeah, I don't know if DC has any Mexican food to match Texas. I like Mi Rancho and the one I can't remember the name of at Four Corners, but that's about it, and they're both fairly Americanized. Weirdly, the best Mexican I've had was in Washington State (but I've never been to any southwestern state other than California). We do have good Salvadorean food, though.

Re: doctor prayers. Wow. It wouldn't surprise me a whole lot in Indiana, either, though.

Remind me sometime and I will take you to Anita's, which is New Mexico-Mexican (so not quite south of the border) but excellent and nicely priced. There is also a place in Adams Morgan that Steve has been (La Fonda?) but I haven't eaten there and so can't report on it.

I've had Tex-Mex and Arizona Mex, and NM-Mex, and it's all good. :)

Let me know if you're coming over on Wednesday evening??

I will probably be running around doing getting-ready-for-weekend things, but either dinner or after dinner sounds good -- just let me know how things are going for you, so I can schedule stuff?

Well, for one, I think our Latino populations is more a mix of South and Central Americans, and so Mexican food isn't as popular/available as it is in Texas.

Trying to source green chiles here is almost impossible, for example.

Check with Steve; he never seems to have problems finding them.
