In which Zana is ANGSTY about British television. And not Pros, for once!
So, going on
sharkopath's recommendation, I decided to watch Doctor Who.
First of all, I discovered that Macs can now do Netflix on demand! This is probably a Very Bad Thing for Zana, but for the moment I am love love loving it.
I wasn't sure about the first three episodes or so, but in the middle of the fourth I realized oh my god this is the best thing ever, and have been watching steadily since then.
So. Besides BEST THING EVAR, I have only two things to say about Doctor Who:
1) For an extinct race, the Daleks sure show up a whole lot in this show.
2) For fuck's sake, why didn't somebody warn me that the Doctor was going to die??? (It's not a spoiler, the season ended years ago.) I fall in love with characters, okay? If I'd known he was just going to bugger off into spacetime and save the universe and Rose Tyler, I wouldn't have bothered falling (as much) in love with him! The tenth Doctor is, I admit, pretty awesome, but I don't trust this series enough to fall in love with him, too. Cause then, once I was thoroughly in love with her, Rose left the show too. (Also not a spoiler, any idiot can read a cast list for season 3 and deduce that the Companion is going to change. It's just that this particular idiot didn't.) Also, Mickey. I knew he wouldn't come back on the show, but I kept being pleasantly surprised: hey, he's in this episode! Wow! Oh gosh, he's in this one too! Now he's locked in a parallel universe, he won't be on the show anymore... no wait! There he is! And then... there he wasn't anymore. *sob*
By this we deduce that Zana has trouble with change.
Mmmm, I'm really liking Torchwood, too. Except for that cannibal episode, that was just nightmarish.

Nine was a great doctor, but Ten? My heart belongs to Ten. He is still the Doctor at the moment. If you pay any attention to the fandom at all you'll know for how long.

Zana, trust me, I was in the same place with the Tenth Doctor. You get over it, eventually
as my irrational love of David Tennant indicates.no subject

I already know I'm going to fall in love with Ten. It's just, once bitten, you know? It'll take a little longer.

Where are you in the series?

I'm at the end of the second season. It took me four episodes to fall in love with Nine, and about a dozen to fall in love with Ten, but in love I am (I stayed up much of last night watching one after another).

Everyone else has had years to get used to this but it's all very new to me. I should perhaps take up actually watching shows when they air, but instead I tend to come to them months or even years later. I came to The Lone Gunmen and X-Files years after the fandom was dead and gone. And then there's Professionals fandom, where the show aired before I was even born... Coming into a fandom with thirty years of history was eye-opening. I guess Doctor Who has forty-something years of history, but I haven't seen any of the old stuff, really cause I wouldn't know where to start. And then there'd be more Doctors to fall in love with and then they'd die, too. :(
