I was outside in the park in front of the White House for the earthquake. I actually thought it was a bomb and was worryingly blase about the possibility. The east coast totally isn't prepared for earthquakes! Everyone filed outside like it was a firedrill. Who knew there were so many PEOPLE downtown??
I was fortunate in that I wasn't trying to get out of the city until late evening, when Metro was still running at 15 mph but at least was not swamped by frightened commuters. At the end of a veeeerry long ride, I dashed home to start a ritual at 10:30 only to find that the earthquake had done a number on my altar. Fortunately very little was actually broken.
