Yeah, the diabetes thing was pure terror, and not knowing was actually easier for a while than dealing with the reality would have been. Until it wasn't, and until I had the kick in the ass that my insurance runs out at the end of this month, so I'd better find out now while I'm still covered.
And, thank God, that was not the problem.
The first thing the doctor said when he came in the room was "And how old are those?" of my shoes. And those were the new(ish) ones! My other pair are... oh Christ, I guess they're fourteen years old, but to be fair I inherited then when my sister died and didn't wear them much until about two years ago. Yeah, nil arch support. Do they even make shoes with arch support anymore? I hate shopping enough that I've never found out.
